Felt human today for the first time in 4 days. Yeah!
My house and specifically, my kitchen, not so much. My kitchen looks like it caught the flu and has thrown up every small kitchen appliance and implement. Knives, juicer parts, food processor parts, and blender parts are strewn in every direction and there’s a constant stream of clutter as we go through the endless cycle of using, cleaning, drying – rinse and repeat.
There’s clearly a steep learning curve in preparing living foods. Many of the recipes give you a choice of blender or food processor, or blender or juicer. I manage to pick the wrong appliance every time, causing me to take out the other appliance, transfer the messy goo to the new one and wash lots of teensy sharp pieces. But we are doing our best to keep our sense of humors.
Dave’s still hanging in there, having lost ~ 6 pounds already. I’ve only lost my mind, but eventually it finds me again.
Today’s menu included:
Breakfast
- Orange/apple/cucumber/ginger/mint juice (yummy!)
- Almonds
- Chai Rooibus
Lunch
- Kitchari and mango (me)
- Sweet potato and salad (Dave)
Dinner
- Homemade guacamole on celery
- Veggie sushi in brown rice with Bragg’s Amino Acids (instead of soy sauce)
- Dates, figs and dried apricots to deal with the sweet tooth
Remember that broccoli-spaghetti squash stuff? I tried to fix it but ended up having to throw it out. 🙁
Now I am making a “wellness broth” with kale, parsley, celery, ginger and lemon. This will be part of Dave’s lunch tomorrow. I also made another batch of kitchari, in hopes that this batch will be more edible than the last one.
Just a few more days before we try just juicing . . . I figure these menus will look like sirloin steak at that point.
I hear you on the constant use, washing, and reassembly of juicers and blenders!
BTW, what I personally find even better than celery for guacamole (and other dips usually served with chips) is Belgian endive — sturdy enough to hold the dip, but you get a much better dip/dipper ratio than with celery …
Excellent suggestion. Thanks!
